Ruby on Rails is tremendous value for business

I've been developing in Ruby on Rails since the keynote at OSCON 2005 in August by DHH who presented the idea that programmers shouldn't need to do xml situps...

<situps>
  <situp position="up" />
  <situp position="down" />
</situps>

Pretty funny.

Smart convention over configuration was another philosophy.  Then infused into the paradigm was the notion of minimalism and the entire philosophy of "Getting Real".

Red Eared Slider - Turtle Proofing the Filter

Our family pet, Buddy, is an 8 year old Red Eared Slider.  She makes quite a mess.  (Yes, I found out it was a girl AFTER naming her.)

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there

Driving only one vehicle

While creating our 2011 budget, I engaged in a thought experiment about creative ways to dramatically reduce our costs in order to live within our means and save for our dreams: ditch one car.  I'll explain my thinking to provide some insight into how the financial mechanics work.

Total cost of ownership

When looking at the cost of owning a car, there are many costs involved, with an example of monthly costs in parentheses:

Embedding fonts in web pages

I am pleased to report that embedding fonts in web pages is now possible.  We are no longer limited to the 13 or so web-safe fonts trading style for seo-friendly pages!

Step by step

I followed NiceWebType.com's article, filled in the gaps and arrived at the following procedure:

Airport hassles: my saga

My recent trip through airport security was incredible.  The news reports had me preparing for the worst.  Then it happened: nothing special.

Perhaps this is a side effect of the news and our thirst for it.  The reports of a few people having trouble have received so much attention.  But what are the real statistics? 1 out of millions?
